Prepare your unit for the fall season

Now that summer has come to an end, the air will begin to become crisp and cool as the next few months of fall lead up into the winter season. While in Augusta, the heat doesn’t seem to wear off as quickly in the start of the season, but it’s still a good idea to start planning on organizing your storage unit for cooler weather.

Whether you need to unpack your sweaters and warmer clothing from your unit, or you need store summer items such as patio furniture, there is no better time to prepare than before the weather actually makes the change.

1. Remove fall and winter items from your unit. Once summer officially ends, it is smart to start going through your unit and grabbing the items that you will need over the course of fall and winter. The most common items include clothing—hats, coats, sweaters, pants—that you will want to replace your summer wardrobe with. With Halloween and Thanksgiving right around the corner you could finally free up storage space by getting those decorations out and prepared for good use. Take the extra step and move holiday items such as Christmas decorations, closer to the front of the unit for easier access when the time comes to get them out

2. Replace fall items with summer items. There are many items in your home that you used during summer that won’t have any use at all during the fall and winter months. Summer items that you will not use include: Lawnmower and other landscape tools, patio furniture, pool supplies, and summer clothing that isn’t warm enough for cold weather.

3. Check on items that have been stored all summer. Don’t just take the items you need for fall and replace them with summer items. Be sure to inspect all of your stored items that may have been left in the heat for all of the summer months. In some cases, items may have occurred climate damage or bug infestation, and it is best to make sure that all of your stored items are safe and clear of any of these issues.

Following these steps early guarantees that you will have the right items stored in time for the weather change, and frees up the space you will need for the new season.
