Storing it Right the First Time

Before you put one thing into your self storage unit, you should be as organized as possible.  This will make everything easier in the long run, especially if you are in the process of moving.  If you simply pack up everything into random boxes and shove it into your unit, then you are going to be faced with massive confusion when you try to figure out where things are.  In the coming weeks, we’ll discuss these points a little more in depth, but here’s a basic overview:

Use self storage boxes that are the same size

When possible, use storage boxes that are the same size.  This will make it easier when you stack them, plus it will be easier for you to separate storage boxes into specific groups when stacking.

Label everything

This may seem obvious, but you need to label the contents of every storage box as specifically as possible.  One way to do this is to create inventories on your computer and print out the entire sheet and tape them to the box as soon as you pack them.  Then, there’s no mystery about what’s inside.

Give yourself enough space

A common mistake people make is to limit access to everything in the self storage unit, usually because the self storage unit is too small for their needs.  When you push everything up against the walls and fill all the moveable space, then it is going to make it extremely difficult to get to items you’ll need.  Your self storage unit should be big enough to have some walk space between your stacks of storage boxes. If not, you need to get a bigger self storage unit.

Next week, we’ll talk more about choosing the right self storage and moving storage boxes to make your self storage unit experience as painless as possible. Contact Hollywood Self Storage in Augusta GA for climate controlled, secure self storage.
